Regular readers of CursorMania know that the crew here like to spend time together both at work and outside of the office. Whether it’s huge sporting events (the Superbowl) or trips to the movie theater, you can usually find a couple staff members together on the weekends. This weekend was no exception. Last night was the 84th annual Academy Awards and the CursorMania crew had all gathered to see who would go home with Oscar. To keep the evening fun and interactive, we played a fun game of Oscar Bingo, whether the squares included things like “standing ovation” or “cries on stage.” Of course, plenty of the group were more interested in the red carpet fashion than who won any awards. If the Grammys are fun and the People’s Choice Awards are more relaxed, the Academy Awards is the biggest night of them all. Industry fashion designers like Versace and Louis Vuitton were well represented as stars like Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz strutted their stuff in front of the cameras. While we’re still discussing our favorite dress of the night, we are sure that last night will go down in the fashion books. What was your favorite look?

Lots of fans of Harry Potter (including, like, everyone at CursorMania) have been hoping and wishing that author J.K. Rowling would change her mind and write more books about the three main characters, Harry, Ron and Hermione, and their adventures in the wizarding world after the fall of Lord Voldemort. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening soon. However, the beloved author announced this week that she has partnered with publishers Little, Brown to publish her first book for adults.

Rowling did not share any of the details of her new book besides its genre but that hasn’t stopped fans everywhere from speculating. The last book Rowling released was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007.

At CursorMania we’re hoping that it’s magic related, even though it likely won’t be. That won’t stop us from wishing, right? We’ve already switched our computer cursors to this free magic wand — do you think if we tried hard enough we could cast a spell on Rowling to write more HP books? It’s worth a try!

Last night the world watched as the 54th annual Grammy awards honored the late Whitney Houston and Adele walked off the stage with six awards. As usual, we had  CursorMania watch party and took note of some of our favorite parts of the evening. First of all, LL Cool J did a fantastic job as host; he looked sharp and stayed classy. In fact, we agree that his sober opening set the tone of the ceremony as millions of people around the world morn the loss of singer Whitney Houston on Saturday. We were also happy to see Adele back in action after her throat surgery late last year. Not only did she dominate the awards ceremony, but she was incredibly humble. The CursorMania crew is slightly divided on the best part of the evening: a lot of people were happy to see the Beach Boys reunite on stage with Maroon 5 and Foster the People, others loved the two appearances by former-Beatle Paul McCartney — but we think that everyone can agree that Jennifer Hudson’s breath-taking tribute to Whitney was one of the most moving moments of the night.

As usual, there were a few things we weren’t so sure about… Niki Minaj’s performance had the CursorMania party worried about going to sleep for fear of nightmares. And the performance featuring Chris Brown, Lil’ Wayne, David Guetta and Deadmous5 was just too wild and crazy for our taste. We will say though, Chris Brown really knows how to dance, as he showed in his performance earlier in the evening. As the evening went on, several members of the CursorMania staff tried to imitate him, and failed terrible. This morning, we’re sending this killer dancer around the office and encouraging everyone with two left feet to make it their mouse pointer ASAP — maybe they can learn how to dance before next year!

Wow, what a game! We know that like us here at CursorMania, you probably spent your Sunday evening eating a ton of food, rating your favorite commercials and watching the 46th Super Bowl. The match-up between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots was a very close one and although the Patriots were favored to win, the Giants were victorious with a score of 21-17. While that’s a fairly low-scoring game, there were definitely some moments during the night that had us making this face:

Wow Surprised Smiley Cursor

For example, the Giants final touchdown was scored by running back Ahmad Bradshaw with less than a minute remaining. That play had Giants fans celebrating and Patriots fans promising that it was all part of Coach Bill Belichick’s plan. As the final seconds ticked away, the Patriots drove the ball down the field, but a last second Hail Mary pass by Tom Brady was unsuccessful and the Giants began celebrating their fourth Super Bowl victory. Other things that had us saying “wow” were Madonna’s half-time performance with guest appearances by M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, and Cee Lo Green, and the mediocre advertisements (don’t they know that half of us are watching exclusively for the commercials?!).

What made you say “WOW” last night? Did your team win or lose? Did you try an awesome appetizer? Download this free smiley cursor to remind you how awesome Super Bowl Sunday is — only 365 days until the next one!
