We know that there are a lot of sports fans who read our blog, just like there are lots of sports fans in the CursorMania office. Well coming up next weekend is one of the biggest sport weekends of the entire year. March Madness, endearing nickname for the NCAA College Basketball playoffs, culminates in New Orleans for the Final Four and championship game. Here are some fun facts about the NCAA (also known as the National Collegiate Athletic Association).

  • Basketball teams within the NCAA are separated into three groups: Division I, Division II, Division III.
  • There are 345 schools in 32 Division I basketball conferences.
  • The newest all-sports Division I conference is the Great West Conference.
  • The NCAA doesn’t just award championships in basketball but in 22 other sports, including skiing, lacrosse and water polo.

This weekend, the playing field for this year’s basketball championships was narrowed from eight teams to four teams. The four teams that advanced to the Final Four are Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio State and Louisville. Coincidentally, two of the teams sport the royal blue color worn by the cheerleader below. So if you’re cheering for Kentucky or Kansas, download this perky cheerleader to show  your school spirit in the Final Four. The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping — It’s the first “official” day of spring and everyone from the staff at CursorMania to the bunnies in the park are celebrating. In fact, a lot of counties around the world celebrate spring in their own special way. In India, the Hindu people celebrate Holi, the festival of colors, to mark the end of the winter season. During the celebrations, people throw water and colored power everywhere, even on each other. In Vietnam, they celebrate the Vietnamese New Year in late January or early February as part of the traditional lunar calendar. This celebration marks the beginning of their spring, even though in the U.S. we must wait a little longer. Each spring, lots of people around the world celebrate Easter, which varies between March 22 and April 25. In Washington, D.C. everyone knows that it is spring when the cherry blossoms begin blooming. This year marks the 100th year since Japan bestowed the gift of 3,000 cherry trees to the United States. Each spring, thousands of tourists visit the nation’s capitol to see the trees. We’re not there to celebrate, but we’re sure there will be lots of butterflies around the beautiful blossoms. If your computer needs a touch of spring, download this free butterfly cursor from CursorMania.

There are few feelings that are worse than waking up to a blinking clock after the power has gone out during the night. In the span of one moment, you experience confusion, anger, and probably terror. Second only to waking up after a power outage is waking up and realizing that you forgot to change your clock for Daylight Savings. There were quite a few stragglers in the CursorMania office this morning who had either forgot to “spring forward” their clocks on Sunday or just weren’t used to the time change yet. Sunday (at 2 a.m. to be precise) marked the beginning of Daylight Savings, which means that it will be staying light later at night — Wahoo!

The idea of Daylight Savings was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 but wasn’t taken seriously until George Vernon Hudson proposed it again in 1895. It was put into practice during the First World War. Essentially, Daylight Savings was created to allow people to better “use” the available daylight based on modern time schedules (work, school, transport) that do not vary based on the position of the sun.

If you’re struggling with the time change like we are here at CursorMania, perhaps you should add this blinking clock as your mouse arrow. It can serve as a reminder to change your clock when you get home (in case you forgot). It’s that time of year again! Across the country, high school and college students are flocking to warmer clients to celebrate their annual “Spring Break.” After finishing with sometimes grueling mid-terms, collegiate students often head to warmer locales like Florida, Mexico or the Caribbean to celebrate a week free from schoolwork with their friends and students from other schools. We have to say that CursorMania peeps are wishing for a spring break, too! All this crazy weather (warm one day, freezing the next) has us wishing that we were on a warm beach in the sun, sipping on a fruity concoction.

So instead of jetting off and leaving our loyal Cursor Mania Info readers behind, we’ve created a substitute for Spring Break, a Spring Break cursor. We’ve all changed our pointers on our work computers from the boring white arrow to this fun, sunny cursor. That way, we can take a break from our work to stare off into the sunset! But wait! What’s that?! There’s nothing like a shark to ruin your beach day. So whether you’re counting down the days until your Spring Break or are just looking for a laugh, visit CursorMania to download this free cursor. Be careful out there kiddos!
