April showers bring May flowers, as they say. But this spring, there hasn’t been a lot of rain at all. Good for those of us who walk to work at CursorMania — bad for our plants. We’ve all been spending as much time outside on the weekends lately since the weather has been beautiful. Some of us have planted flower gardens, with pretty spring flowers like irises, hyacinths, ranunculus, azaleas, poppies and more. Others have decided to plant vegetable gardens so we can enjoy fresh veggies throughout the spring and summer. Some vegetables that you should plant now are lettuce, beets, cabbage, cilantro and broccoli. Cucumbers, squash, zucchini, basil, tomatoes and eggplants can be planted after the last frost.

As much as we love eating fresh veggies from the garden, they don’t look or smell quite as nice around the CursorMania office. We always try to have several strategically-placed arrangements in our space at a time. Not only do visitors find it to be a nice touch, but it makes everyone in the office a little happier. Can’t have fresh flowers in your office? Why not download a free flower cursor for your computer? We can’t promise that it will smell as nice as a real flower, but it looks just as pretty. For more flowers or thousands of other mouse pointers, visit CursorMania today.

What happens after a space ship comes back to Earth? Well, in the case of the space shuttle Discovery, it takes on more flight. This week, the Discovery is being flown to Washington, D.C. where it will be displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. But since the space shuttle wasn’t really made for flying like normal airplanes, it will have to travel in a special way. Discovery will be attached to the back of a 747 airplane that has been specially modified by NASA. Wouldn’t that be a crazy thing to see?

Here are some fun facts about the Discovery for space fans and wanna-be astronauts:

  • Discovery is the third of NASA’s reusable, winged space ships.
  • Discovery was launched on its first mission on August 30, 1984.
  • Over its lifetime, the space shuttle completed more than 30 successful missions.
  • The Discovery carried the Hubble Space Telescope into space in April 1990.
  • It is named for two famous ships; one sailed by Henry Hudson and the other by James Cook.

As children, plenty of us dreamed about becoming astronauts or attending space camp. To keep the dream alive (even if you never actually make it to outer space), CursorMania is sharing this special, free star cursor. Download it to your computer and dream of seeing stars up close out the window of a space shuttle like Discovery. CursorMania has thousands of other cursors to choose from as well.

Have any CursorMania fans read the Hunger Games books or seen the first film in theaters? If you have, you’re not alone. Well over 3 million copies of the book have been sold or downloaded since the book came out in September of 2008. And since it premiered on March 23rd, the film has earned over $460 million. It currently ranks at third for best box office openings of all time. It will likely break more records before it’s all said and done.

If you’re totally lost, here’s a breakdown of the trilogy. The story takes place in a country called Panem, which is divided into the Capitol and 12 surrounding districts; each district has a dedicated industry, like fishing or coal-mining, among others. Each year, a boy and girl are selected from each district to participate in the Hunger Games as punishment for a long-ago rebellion by District 13. The Hunger Games takes place in the Capitol and is a controlled game in which the representatives from each district must fight until only one remains alive.

One of the coolest scenes from the movie is when all the tributes (their name for the representatives) go to the Capitol and are introduced to the nation on TV. Katniss, the book’s main character, is dressed in a beautiful, flaming dress, prompting everyone to call her “The Girl on Fire.” While we can’t give all our readers such a cool outfit (or nickname) we do have this flaming cursor to share. If you’re a Hunger Games fanatic like us, download this free cursor to show your love for the book and movie. For even more free cursors, visit CursorMania.

2nd Apr 12

Another week, another party. That’s what it sounds like sometimes at the CursorMania offices, we’re sure. But we just like to have a good time and keep up morale by celebrating important events. The party this week is a baby shower for one of the employees whose been around for the longest. She just found out that she’s having a baby girl, so there will be lots of pink and purple around the office this week. We’re excited to see her little girl grow up and do all sorts of fun things like ballet classes, Girl Scouts, softball and much more.

While pink is mostly associated with baby girls these days, it hasn’t always been the case. Gender-specific clothes for babies didn’t begin to appear until the middle of the 19th century. Around World War I, pink was thought of as a color for baby boys and blue was for little girls. Before the 19th century, all babies wore gender neutral clothes up until the time they were six or seven years old. And they usually only wore white — because it could easily be bleached! Isn’t it strange how the times have changed?

To celebrate this week, we’ve created an adorable baby girl cursor for our colleague. Feel free to download it and share it with any soon-to-be parents you know. Or visit CursorMania to download thousands of other free cursors today!
